Function Security

Function Security

Function security allows you to define users, and grant them
privileges in relation to screens, reports and request sets.
This chapter will introduce you first to the main components of the Function Security . Then we will have a look at some examples on how to create a user, and grant, restrict or extend user privileges.
At the end of the chapter, you will be able to practice all this with some exercises on Function Security.
RBAC

Role Based Access Control

The Role Based Access Control is an extension of the Function Security.
In this chapter, you'll first learn why this can be useful and what can be dangerous to use. Then, you'll be introduced to the characteristics of a Role and you will learn how to work with Delegated Administration and Data Security. Finally, you will be able to practice all this with some exercises concerning RBAC.

Profiles

System and Personal Profiles

Sometimes computer systems have to be modified in order
to be fine-tuned to your needs. Oracle Applications makes this possible thanks to its profiles. A profile is a set of changeable options that affect the way your application looks and behaves. Profiles can be set on various levels. Some can be set by the end-user and others can only be set by the System Administrator.
In this chapter, we'll start by analysing the actual possibilities given by these profiles. Then we'll continue with the profile levels, and provide you with a list of the most useful profiles. We will also discuss briefly how behavior of profiles can be changed. Finally, you will be able to practice each of these topics with some specific exercises.

Concurrent Programs

Concurrent Program and Managers

Besides data entry (entering and querying data through the screens),
you also might want to print some reports of the data contained in the system. Since an Oracle system can be very large, calculating and printing the data can take quite some time. In the meantime you probably want to continue working on the data entry while the system is running your report. To allow all this to happen simultaneously, Oracle uses Concurrent Programs.
In this chapter we'll look how you can run (request) a program with parameters and how the administrator can administer (stop, cancel) requested programs. We'll also take a glance at Coded Request Groups, which is a security extension and later at the Request Sets.
