Value Sets
Value Sets describe the data that can be entered in a

segment in a Key Flexfield or Descriptive Flexfield. In some cases it helps by presenting a list of valid choices, in other cases it defines that only numbers or characters can be entered. This chapter describes the different types of Values Sets, and explains via Guided Exercises how to create Values Sets.
The chapter ends with some exercises for you.
- Descriptive Flexfields
Descriptive Flexfields
Descriptive Flexfields provide customizable ”expansion space”

on most forms. Though the fields on Oracle E-Business Suite forms are normally more than enough to capture all the possible information, still sometimes the users can feel the need of capturing additional information. It is important to note that this data is stored in the Oracle database, but is not used by Oracle E-Business Suite, so Descriptive Flexfields give you room to expand forms for capturing additional information.
This chapter describes how you can use and modify Descriptive Flexfields. Also the use of the Context and the Reference fields are explained.Exercises are provided for further practice.
- Key Flexfields
Key Flexfields
A Key Flexfield is a field made up of segments,

where each segment has both a value and a meaning. These “intelligent” fields can be used in your business to store information represented as “codes.” A Key Flexfield can identify accounts in General Ledger or part numbers or other business entities. This chapter also explains Shorthand Aliases, Flexfield Qualifiers and Cross-Validation Rules. With Cross-Validation Rules you can define rules that govern what combination of segment values are valid and define dependencies among the segments.
- Profiles
Profiles
Sometimes computer systems have to be modified

in order to be fine tuned to your needs. Oracle E-Business Suite makes this possible thanks to its profiles. A profile is a set of changeable options that affect the way your application looks and behaves.
In this chapter, we'll start by analyzing the actual possibilities given by these profiles related to Flexfields. Then Guided Exercises explain the use of profiles that can be used for Quickpick, for Shorthand Entry and for Show Full Value. The chapter ends with some exercises on the Profiles.
- Lookup Types
Lookup Types
Lookup Types are List of Values. The Values in the

List are hard coded, but the mechanism is different from the Value set of Type Independent. The Values are stored in FND_LOOKUP_VALUES, while the values of the Independent Value Set are stored in FND_FLEX_VALUES.
This is explained via Guided Exercises.- Buy as a book
